Sweetness and Skippyjon Jones

I was a fan of today!
Today was one of those days that reminds me why I wanted to be a teacher in the first place.  I have a very sweet class this year. Of course, there are a handful of boys this year who, at times, threaten to the be bad apples.  BUT, 3 of them are currently suspended. FOR THREE DAYS.  Those words can be music to a teacher's ears.

Anyway, back to my SWEET class. We are down to 15 days left til summer and at this point, I always plan fun little projects and activities for them to do.  Today, we finished up our Skippyjon Jones construction paper character.  I am a HUGE Skippyjon Jones fan.  My classroom has ALL the books, cd's read by the author included, and a few stuffed Skippy's.  Tomorrow we will be working on the writing portion.  I figured since Friday is Cinco de Mayo, we should try do to something related.  I also have 8 hispanic students in my class this year.

My big Skippy book and 2 stuffed Skippy's.
A few of their construction paper Skippy's. I love how each one is different.
We were just working and listening to music all day. Then Mrs. Bird, our substitute Science teacher came to pick them up for Science.  She took them outside. When she brought them back, not only had she already taken them to the restroom and got water...she also told me that they were the BEST class she had had ALL DAY LONG!!!  Stickers and chocolate treats soon followed.  That just makes this teacher's heart swell with love and pride.  I am so happy for summer to get here already...but I am also a little sad to let this group of kiddos go.
